COLUMBIA — A fee increase for residence halls and family student housing was unanimously approved Friday morning by the UM System Board of Curators. The increase affects all campuses in the UM System and will vary by location, meal plan and residence facility.

Effective as of the summer 2010 session, meal plan rate increases will range from 2 percent to 2.3 percent, while housing rate increases will range from 4.8 percent to 5.1 percent.

The most-used plan at MU (consisting of a renovated double room and 14 meals per week) will increase by $300. This 3.9 percent increase will raise the plan to $7,925 for two semesters.

The St. Louis campus will see the highest increase with a 6.1 percent hike for the predominant plan of a single room, seven meals per week and $900 to be used at various food service locations around campus.

Also at the meeting in Kansas City, UM System President Gary Forsee announced that the system's Enterprise Investment Program has set aside $5 million to help fund startups that will advance research to the marketplace.
