Columbia commission to name "Most Notable Properties" at Tuesday gala

COLUMBIA — The Historic Preservation Commission will announce the most notable properties in Columbia at its annual gala.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Tiger Hotel, 23 S. Eighth St. The public is welcome to attend this free event.

After a video presentation of the historic properties, the Historic Preservation Commission Chair Brian Treece will introduce this year's award winners at about 7:30 p.m., according to a news release.

This annual event has been held since 1999, creating an opportunity for the public to view some of Columbia's historical and architecturally significant properties. According to the news release, images of nominees from the past 11 years will be displayed. Award winners have been encouraged to bring pictures and newspaper articles to present at the event and may speak after the video presentation.

The nominations opened in August 2009 and ended on Oct. 1, 2009. Nominated properties must be within the city, be at least 50 years old and have architectural or historical characteristics that add to Columbia's social or aesthetic resources, according to previous Missourian reports.
