COLUMBIA — A Columbia resident was in custody after hiding from police during a narcotics investigation at the Red Roof Inn in Columbia on Monday evening, according to a release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
The suspect ran as he was approached by a sheriff's deputy during the investigation. The deputy went after the man on foot but lost him in the woods near Newton Drive and Leslie Lane. The suspect dropped a handgun as he ran from the deputy. The gun was later determined to be stolen.
Deputies used the Boone County K9 Unit to track and locate the man. He was found hiding beneath a parked car on Newton Drive and was identified as Samuel E. Haley, 36, of Columbia.
Haley had a no bond Federal Probation and Parole Warrant for a charge of possession of narcotics.
Along with the warrant, Haley was also charged with resisting arrest, unlawful possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property.
