It’s not too soon to begin deliberating with each other about who will get our vote for the next mayor of Columbia. I want to recommend Sid Sullivan for your consideration. Here’s why he’s caught my attention:
- a) He’s concerned with social justice issues in our community. For example, he and his wife Joan are active members of GRO (Grass Roots Organizing), they participate at local rallies for peace and he’s determined that homeless persons have adequate shelter;
- b) He cares about the quality of life in our city as evidenced by his desire to secure and promote increased job opportunities and to use his past work experience to plan and promote neighborhoods with a sense of community; and
- c) His ideas about governance focus on openness and clear communication. This is reflected in his values to complete transparency in all city departments and his challenge to citizens and city officials alike to take a close look at our city charter (local constitution) that has evolved over the past 60 years to see if it can guide us over the next 60 years.
Sid Sullivan looks forward to representing and serving all the citizens of Columbia. He believes, “For a strong community to work, it has to work for everyone.”
