JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri will reimburse 20 counties for up to $4 million in expenses that resulted from a January 2009 ice storm in southern Missouri.
In February 2009, the federal government declared a major disaster area in Missouri. The storm dropped up to two inches of ice and blanketed the southern part of the state with snow and sleet. It closed schools for days and knocked out power to more than 100,000 homes.
The money will pay for about 10 percent of the costs for expenses such as overtime for medical responders and the use of schools for shelter in the storm's aftermath.
