True/False Film Festival reveals lineup

COLUMBIA — This year's True/False Film Festival will include 35 feature films, three short programs and numerous filmmakers present at the screenings.

The full 2010 program was released Friday on the True/False Web site.

This year's lineup includes highlights from the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, including U.S. Documentary Grand Jury Prize winner "Restrepo" and U.S. Documentary Special Jury Prize winner "Gasland."

Other notable events include sneak previews of Kaspar Astrup Schröder's "Invention of Dr. NakaMats" and Adam Curtis' "It Felt Like a Kiss."

Each year, through the True Life Fund, festival audiences raise money for the subjects of one documentary. This year's recipient is "Enemies of the People," which follows Cambodian journalist Thet Sambath as he interviews former members of the totalitarian regime Khmer Rouge. True/False aims to raise at least $10,000 for Sambath, who will attend the festival with co-director Rob Lemkin.

The festival's only honor, the True Vision award, will be given to Laura Poitras, director of "The Oath." This award is given to a filmmaker whose work is advancing the art of nonfiction filmmaking.

Stephen Marshall, 2005 recipient of the True Vision award, will return to the festival with a special viewing of his latest work, "HolyWars." The film tracks two evangelists, one a conservative Christian and the other an Irish Muslim.

The festival is slated to open Feb. 25 and run for three days at various locales at MU and throughout Columbia.
