Columbia man sentenced to 10 years for selling cocaine

COLUMBIA – After pleading guilty to selling crack cocaine, 30-year-old Columbia resident D’Mitri Antonio Doughty will serve 10 years in federal prison without parole.

U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey issued the sentence Tuesday, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri. 

On Dec. 28, 2009, Doughty was arrested after selling 124.4 grams of powder cocaine to a law enforcement source. He sold the drugs for $3,500 in the undercover operation. He was arrested after driving away.

Doughty admitted in September 2009 that he had distributed at least 50 grams of crack cocaine in Boone County, plus slightly less than an ounce of powder cocaine. The powder cocaine was sold to a “confidential law enforcement source” for $900, said the news release. It said Doughty also claimed he sold two additional ounces of crack cocaine to the same source a few days later. The source paid $1,800 for the two ounces.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Kummerer prosecuted the case, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Mid-Missouri Unified Strike Team and Narcotics Group, the Columbia Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated.
