COLUMBIA — Outside, it’s just a building. But inside, the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia is a frenzy of activity – the space is bustling with kids playing games, doing homework or just hanging out with friends.
Operated by staff members and volunteers, the club serves as a safe and education after-school hangout for over 80 Columbia youth. The organization has a long waiting list, however, and is actively working to bring in more funding so they can serve more kids.
In January, the club partnered with Columbia Public Schools to move into then-empty Field Elementary School. The move is just one of many strategies the Boys and Girls Club is employing in hopes of providing better service to the youth of the community.
