PrintCOLUMBIA — Columbia police caught a suspected serial burglar early Friday morning after an alarm sounded at the Tiger Pawn store at 1209 Business Loop 70 E. according to a release. David L. Wright, 31, was arrested on suspicion of burglary for the third time since September.
Police responded to an alarm at the pawn shop around 1 a.m., said Public Information Officer Jessie Haden. She said police found Wright next to the building, and some of the siding had been peeled off, and they believe he had removed it in an attempt to get into the building.
Haden said Wright ran from the scene, police chased him for a few minutes and caught him on Lakeview Avenue. They found on him a bag containing items commonly used in burglaries: sockets, a saw, a saw blade, a flashlight, a carpenter’s-style knife and a mask.
Police had been watching Wright for four days because they considered him a suspect in two other burglaries: one on Sept. 14 at a Break Time store at 2402 Paris Road and the other on Jan. 17 at the Casey’s store at 2520 Range Line St. He was a suspect because of video surveillance, Haden said.
Wright was in the Boone County Jail as of 4:30 p.m. with a bond amount of $75,000. He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of burglar's tools and resisting arrest.
