PrintCOLUMBIA — Bondi Wood, a Democrat who hopes to succeed Ken Pearson as Boone County presiding commissioner, said during a kickoff event Thursday night that her campaign will primarily focus on maintaining the status quo.
"I'm not running on change," Wood said. "I'm running on seamless leadership."
Wood, a local business owner and former teacher, gathered with about 80 people at the Tiger Shrine Club on Thursday. The gathering included a home-style meal and a silent auction.
Wood said she has developed many connections with Columbia business owners, on college campuses and in Columbia Public Schools. Wood has been active in Boone County politics for 20 years. She said she suspects she'll be the "only candidate who has run successful campaigns." Wood didn't mention any specific campaigns, but she has worked on Sixth Ward hopeful Rod Robison's campaign, according to a previous Missourian article.
Pearson said a few weeks ago that he doesn't plan to run for a second four-year term. He attended Wood's kickoff. So far, the only other candidate is Democrat J. Scott Christianson.
Wood said she wants to campaign on economic development and job creation, but she won't reveal details of her campaign platform until after the filing period ends March 30 and a new Columbia mayor is elected April 6.
"I will have a distinct message," she said.
The commissioner's seat, as well as other county, state and federal offices will be filled in the November general election after parties nominate candidates in the August primary.
