HALLSVILLE — A woman crashed her car into the Hallsville post office Wednesday.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m., when Connie Hickan’s foot slipped off the brake and hit the accelerator, Hallsville police Chief Tony Fields said. Hickan, 64, was pulling into a parking lot next to the building, located at 319 Hwy. 124-E.
The car, a 1994 Ford Explorer, created a hole approximately 5 feet wide and 3 feet long in the side of the building, said Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp of the Boone County Fire Protection District.
The building was deemed structurally safe by Boone County Zoning and Building and county firefighters.
"The damage inside is all cosmetic," Blomenkamp said. "It appears they will be able to cover up the hole and keep the building open."
No injuries were reported. There were no passengers in the vehicle, and only two people were in the post office at the time.
No citations had been issued, Fields said.
