Two foreclosed homes burglarized

COLUMBIA — Two foreclosed homes were reported burglarized Wednesday morning to Columbia police, according to an e-mail from Public Information Officer Jessie Haden.

The burglaries occurred at 4802 Walnut Ridge Court and 4812 Edenton Blvd. The loan company Freddie Mac had foreclosed both properties.

According to the e-mail, a washer and dryer valued at $600 together were removed from the Edenton property. At Walnut, $250 worth of shelving was taken from the garage. Authorities are unsure when each burglary occurred, though the burglary at the Edenton property could have happened as early as November of last year, according to the e-mail.

There was no evidence of forced entry at either location, according to Haden's e-mail, although Freddie Mac had changed the locks of both homes after foreclosure. Haden's e-mail indicated it was possible people who have access to keys or know which houses had been foreclosed committed the burglaries.

In December, a burglary was reported at a foreclosed home on Raleigh Drive, and Haden also mentioned burglaries at two other foreclosed homes, one on Nance Drive in Boone County and one in Audrain County. All of them had been foreclosed by Freddie Mac.
