State suit still pending in grain fraud scheme

ST. LOUIS — The nine-year federal prison sentence imposed on an eastern Missouri woman for defrauding grain farmers isn't necessarily the end of her legal troubles.
Cathy Gieseker, 45, of Martinsburg, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty in November for a Ponzi scheme that defrauded 179 farmers of more than $27 million. She must pay restitution and forfeit property that includes five pieces of land and 22 vehicles.

A state case is still pending against Gieseker. A spokeswoman for the Missouri Attorney General's Office says state prosecutors were awaiting results of the federal sentencing before deciding how to move forward.

I have known her most of my life and really angers me to know she would do this to people she has known and grew up with most of her life as well.She came from a good family I just don't understand why any would get so greedy and think they could get rich by screwing people over it always comes back to get you in the end.
