JEFFERSON CITY — New and expectant mothers can receive baby information through free text messages provided by Missouri health officials.

The Department of Health and Senior Services announced Friday it has joined with the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition to bring health information to mothers through cell phones.

New and expectant mothers can receive three free text messages a week with health information about such topics as nutrition, immunizations and how to prevent birth defects.

Text BABY to 511411 to sign up. The content of each message will be tailored to the baby's developmental stage.
