COLUMBIA — Judge Gary Oxenhandler will take over as presiding judge of the 13th Circuit Court for Boone and Callaway counties later this month. He was elected by the other circuit judges from a pool that included three other candidates.
Oxenhandler will replace Judge Gene Hamilton on March 29. Hamilton announced his intention to retire earlier this year.
Former Gov. Bob Holden first appointed Oxenhandler, then a practicing attorney, to the bench in October 2002 to replace retiring Judge Frank Conley. In November 2004, Oxenhandler won an election to keep the position.
Hamilton is resigning after more than 35 years as a judge. He has been the presiding judge for the last eight years.
