PrintThe Missouri Tigers are 22-8 going into their final regular season game against the No. 2-ranked Kansas Jayhawks. This time last year, the Tigers were No. 15 in the nation with a record of 24-5 and went on to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament for only the fourth time in the school’s history.
This season the Tigers were predicted to finish seventh in the Big 12 Conference after losing their top three scorers last season.
The team lost two consecutive games — against Richmond and Vanderbilt — for the first time since the 2007-2008 season.
Then J.T. Tiller was arrested for an unpaid speeding ticket and suspended for the game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, which the team ultimately won.
A victory against the University of Illinois for the first time in a decade gave the team some "braggin' rights" and things started to turn around. The team then beat No. 11 Kansas State in the Big 12 Conference opener and built a 32-game winning streak at home with players Marcus Denmon, Justin Safford and Laurence Bowers becoming the teams' leading scorers.
Then Safford tore his left ACL in a game against Colorado on Feb. 24, and although the severity of the tear is unknown, a torn ACL is usually a season-ending injury.
Despite some setbacks, the Tigers are currently tied for third in the Big 12, leaving them a likely candidate for a spot in the NCAA tournament.
