Missouri women's soccer tie in spring season game

A strong defensive effort was key for the Missouri women's soccer team's shutout of Minnesota.

The only problem, the Tigers couldn't score either. The game ended tied at 0 on Sunday at the Overland Park Soccer Complex.

Missouri (1-0-1) freshman goalkeeper Jess Gwin had two saves for her first shutout of the spring season. The Missouri backline of Krista Kruse, Jessica Greer and Kendra Collins anchored the Tigers' defense and limited the Gophers to 11 shots in the game.

Missouri's best scoring chance came in the 21st minute as freshman forward Haley Krentz threaded a pass between Minnesota defenders to sophomore striker Jessie Crabtree. Crabtrees shot from inside the penalty area was partially deflected at the last moment and went narrowly over the crossbar.

 

 

The match, part of the 2010 Border Battle tournament played at the new $36 million soccer complex, marked the third straight spring that Missouri and Minnesota have played in Kansas City, with the Tigers emerging victorious in each of the prior two meetings.
