COLUMBIA — Listeners of the 10-year-old radio show Global Journalist can now stream it live online at rjionline.org at 8:30 a.m. Thursdays. They can also e-mail or call in with questions for the international guests on the show.
The live online program, which started on March 4, will be extended from the usual half-hour discussion of world news to an hour, which will allow the guests to answer the viewers’ questions.
The host of Global Journalist, Stuart Loory, wanted to give viewers a chance to ask questions on the topics they are interested in. He said the Q-and-A format “helps to get listeners closer to the news and make the news more relevant to them."
The live show will also include photos related to the issues under discussion.
Loory had been pushing for the program to go live since the facility was available at the Reynolds Journalism Institute last September.
"This program is extremely popular, and it is the most downloaded program on KBIA by far," he said. "It indicates that people listening to our program are really interested in international news."
After broadcasting live, the radio show will be archived on globaljournalist.org, as well as broadcast on KBIA at 91.3 FM for a half-hour at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays.
This week's program will focus on the March 7 parliamentary elections in Iraq, featuring guests from the U.S., Iraq and Syria or Jordan.
