Missouri men's and women's swim coach resigns

COLUMBIA — After 18 years as head coach of the Missouri men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, Brian Hoffer has decided to resign his position to pursue other opportunities, according to a release.

Hoffer leaves the team as one of the rising programs of the collegiate swimming world, coaching the Tigers men's to a school-best second-place finish in the 2009 Big 12 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. He ends his tenure with 12 straight winning seasons with the women and 10 straight winning seasons with the men.

In 2009, Hoffer was named the Big 12 Men’s Coach and Women’s Co-Coach of the Year. While at MU, he earned a dual meet record of 226-134-1.

“Brian did an amazing job of building a program that had very little going for it when he came here,” said Sarah Reesman, MU's  executive associate athletics director  in the release. “Our facilities were really subpar, but he had a vision and dug in and worked hard, and now he’s leaving with a pair of programs that are top-25 in the nation.

“We’ll miss him being on deck going forward, but we understand his decision and wish him nothing but the best.”

In his sixth year as an assistant coach, Chris Peters will fill in for Hoffer as interim head coach of both programs for the rest of the season. Both teams have swimmers competing in the NCAA Championship meet later this month.
