COLUMBIA — A statewide tornado drill planned for today has been postponed until 1:30 p.m. Thursday because of possible threatening weather, according to the City of Columbia.
The Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency Management will activate outdoor warning sirens across the county at 1:30 p.m.
In 2009, three people died and 11 were injured in storms that produced tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
A press release from the city said that schools, businesses, hospitals and government offices are encouraged to practice their emergency drills in observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
