COLUMBIA
– Cindy Stein will coach her
final game for the MU women’s basketball team at some point this week, depending
on how far the Tigers advance in the Big 12 Tournament. Stein has been the
Tigers’ coach for 12 seasons, but as her team’s third straight losing season
wound down, she announced March 1 that she would resign at the end of the
season.
The decision was not a
surprise. Stein said in an e-mail release that the university and her agreed it
was in the best interest of the program for her to step down.

Stein’s team has gone 12-17
this season and lost 10 games in a row during the Big 12 season. Although
Missouri has had only three winning seasons in the conference under Stein, she
guided the Tigers to three NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2001.
Do you think it was time
for Stein to leave? Would it have been better for Missouri if she stayed
another year to try and turn the program around?
