COLUMBIA — Boone County's new treasurer, Jan Fugit, was sworn into office Friday afternoon at the County Commission chambers.
Fugit was the financial reporting manager at Boone County Hospital until she was appointed treasurer by Gov. Jay Nixon this week.
"This has been a really exciting week," Fugit said after she took the oath. "I am truly humbled that Gov. Nixon had faith in my abilities and appointed me this leadership position."
As treasurer, Fugit will be responsible for managing the funds of the county.
"It's an exciting opportunity for me and for Boone County," Fugit said. "I am gonna show Monday morning and do my best."
Bob McDavid, chairman of the Boone Hospital Center Board of Trustees, has worked with Fugit for 13 years.
"Jan is highly competent and hard working," he said. "Boone County Hospital is going to miss her."
Shirley Randall, a former director of financial services at Boone Hospital Center, was Fugit's boss for 10 years.
"She has the background and experience," she said. "She is a dedicated employee for any job."
Fugit is an MU alumna with a degree in accounting. She has also worked for the Missouri Department of Higher Education, the Missouri Department of Insurance and the Missouri auditor.
County Clerk Wendy Noren, who administered the oath of office, said she has known Fugit for 15 years.
"It's nice to have Jan with us," Noren said.
