COLUMBIA — Canadian artist Stuart Keeler might become the artist for the scheduled parking garage at Fifth and Walnut streets. The Columbia City Council is scheduled to put it to a vote at Monday night's meeting.
The Percent for Art program, initiated by the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs in 1997, allows for one percent of the cost of city construction or renovated projects to be used for art at the site. The Eighth and Cherry parking garage was its first project.
Keeler is a Canadian sculptor, curator and writer, according to the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center's Web site. According to his Web site, Keeler considers "the built environment of the urban realm his studio."
