COLUMBIA — The Old Route K bridge over Hinkson Creek and the part of the Hinkson Creek Trail underneath will be closed starting Monday.
Don Schnieders Excavating Company Inc. of Jefferson City will begin construction on the bridge at 7 a.m., according to a Columbia Public Works news release. Pedestrians and motorists should use alternate routes until the project is completed.
The project should be finished no later than Aug. 20.
The Hinkson Creek Trail closure will prevent access to Providence Road from the trail.
The total cost of the project is $1.4 million. It is funded by the Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program and the federal On-System Bridge and Replacement & Rehabilitation Program.
Plans include replacing the old pony plate and girder bridge with a new bridge featuring a 10-foot pedestrian walkway on the west side and a 5-foot sidewalk on the east side.
