COLUMBIA — The Hickman girls soccer team has been practicing corner kicks lately. It paid off on Tuesday evening when the Kewpies scored two goals off of corner kicks to defeat visiting Pembroke Hill 2-0.
Sophomore Jessie Loch set up both corner kicks, one to senior Grace Grigg and the other to senior Jessie Ross.
“She just put two great balls into the box,” Hickman coach Tony Gragnani said of Loch. “We’ve been working on placement, and trying to hit our girls in stride, and she just played it great. Our players were then able to make a great run and put it in the back of the goal.”
Both goals came in the first half.
“We each have our assigned spots, and I just ran in and did what I could to head it in,” Grigg said.
The goal was Grigg's first of the season.
"Jessie (Loch) crossed it over, and it hit a couple of people, and I just saw it and drilled into the top of the goal,” Ross said.
Hickman (2-0) moves on to three consecutive games on the road, in addition to a tournament in Rolla. The Kewpies start Thursday at Camdenton. Hickman’s next home game is against Lindbergh on April 9.
