PrintCOLUMBIA — After seven years as chief executive officer of the Columbia Board of Realtors, Carol Van Gorp announced her resignation. She will take a similar job in Florida, where she previously owned a house.
“I believe there’s more to life than warm weather and palm trees,” she said. “I’m going to have the chance to help about 7,400* realtor members in Florida make a living.”
Van Gorp will relocate to Palm Beach, where she says the real estate business faces some difficult challenges, especially with foreclosures. “I’m going to help make a difference in their economic future.”
After moving to Columbia in 2003 to take the CEO position here, Van Gorp has become a valuable member of the realtors group.
Since Van Gorp took up her leadership position, 18,000 houses have been sold in Columbia.
“We’ve been fortunate to have such an attentive executive officer who attends to the needs of the local realtors and who has a presence at the state and national level,” Kenny Hubble, 2010 president of the Columbia Board of Realtors, said.
Van Gorp said she is confident that her years in Columbia helped focus the public’s attention on the economic issues that affect all homeowners.
Van Gorp is looking forward to warmer weather, but she said she will miss Columbia: “This is a great place to be, and I’ll be sad to leave.”
