COLUMBIA — With the April 6 election looming, the Keep Columbia Free coalition has made clear its commitment to combating Proposition I, an ordinance that would allow surveillance cameras to be placed downtown in the central business district.
The group recently filed to be an official campaign committee, which would allow it to raise money for its cause, according to a news release. The coalition has joined forces with Liberty on the Rocks, the Boone County Liberty Coalition and community members to urge residents to vote no on Proposition I on the April 6 ballot.
The coalition does support the use of surveillance cameras in high-risk areas such as parking garages. Its concern is that the public could access any surveillance footage under Missouri's Sunshine Law. The footage could then be used to any end.
Columbia City Council has twice rejected similar proposals because of a lack of significant evidence that cameras deter crime or help in solving crime.
Keep Columbia Safe said it will sponsor a demonstration from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday on the corner of Ninth Street and Broadway, where protesters plan to wield signs and cameras.

-So like HOW DO I get to the "Keep Columbia Free" website?
Good question Ray, but unfortunately it seems broken at the moment. I've emailed our webmaster, should be up early in the morning I would hope.

Rob, previously the link in this story was pointing to another Missourian article on the downtown cameras instead of the Keep Columbia Free website.
Apparently I was in error when I stated the website itself (KeepColumbiaFree.com, not the Missourian) was not working properly. Seems like Opera on one my machines is not resolving the correct website, but my laptop is working OK.
