As a concerned citizen and mother, I encourage you to vote “Yes” on Proposition 1.
Community safety is important to every Columbia resident regardless of age or address. Personally, I don’t know how anyone who has watched the video of Adam Taylor being attacked in one of our downtown parking garages cannot agree that increased use of safety cameras are a necessary tool to help the Columbia Police Department keep Columbia safe.
Proposition 1 authorizes the Columbia Police Chief to deploy or move downtown safety cameras for the purpose of enhancing public safety and to act as a deterrent to crime. The Columbia Police Officers' Association, the Columbia Professional Fire Fighters Local 1055, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and Columbia Crime Stoppers have all endorsed Proposition 1, and according to our Keep Columbia Safe online survey, 91 percent of participants said safety cameras downtown are a good thing.
Being the mother of three, I appreciate all that this city does, and is continuing todo, to keep our kids safe. Please get out and vote on April 6, and vote “Yes” to Proposition 1.

Another worried mother who can't figure out how to keep her own kids safe?
How will a few city-paid cameras, to be displayed in an exclusive part of town, keep your children safe?
May I suggest you advocate for a properly administered teen curfew for starters?
