PrintIn the week since health care reform passed Congress, there have been threats made against lawmakers, both Democrats and Republicans.
At least 10 Democrats have raised concerns about their personal safety since last Sunday’s vote, according to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland.
Examples of threats include House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-South Carolina, receiving a picture of noose via fax and a threatening letter with white powder sent to the office of Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-New York.
Republicans haven’t been immune from threats either. Minority Whip Eric Cantor, R-Virginia, reported a bullet being fired through a window of his campaign office. Also, Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite, R-Florida, received a death threat on her district office’s voice mail.
There are ongoing investigations on all of the mentioned claims.
An article in the New York Times addressed how political anger turns into violence. In the article, Francesca Polletta, a sociologist at the University of California-Irvine, said a combination of the feeling of moral betrayal and a specific target can turn protest groups from talkers to aggressors.
There have been accusations from both parties about fanning the flames. Yet, members of both parties agree that violence is not the answer.

The bullet in Cantor's office was determined by police to have been fired skyward, at random, with no discernible political motivation.

there, I fixed it for you...
threats arent new to congress.they are just trying to get some attention away from the fact that, once again, they have passed another bill taking away our natural and constitutional rights.or so they think they can.people are finally seeing what the power hungry fools are trying to do to us and the future of this country.
However i dont think violence is the answer...yet.start by voting every incumbent out of office at every level.that will take a while i realize but maybe, a big maybe, they will see that we are tired of the crap and they will do what they are meant to do.If people would read the 10th amendment they would see that most of the power is left up to the states to decide what is best for them, not Washington.if we act according to that, we wouldnt have such a federal deficit to begin with and they couldnt pass laws like the healthcare bill and operate departments like EPA, DHS, DNR, FDA.the states would have say as to what goes on in their own state as long is it didnt go against the U.S.Constitution.
