On March 23 the Columbia Council Parent Teacher Association , a group comprised of 22 PTA/PTSA units within the Columbia Public School District, voted to endorse the 2010 Columbia Public School Bond issue.
It is our mission to promote the welfare of children, and work to insure that schools and community provide quality education. The council recognizes that the public schools are overcrowded; understands that school facilities must promote and support learning; acknowledges the desire of parents and the community to decrease the number of grade-level transitions; realizes that repairs and renovations will prolong the life of current school buildings, knowing that an investment in our schools is an investment in our community.
Therefore, the council encourages all citizens to vote “yes” on April 6 to support the Columbia Public Schools' no-tax-rate-increase bond issue.
Kim Weber is the president of the Columbia Council PTA.

i have a daughter in the first grade so i realize the need for funding schools. But, this is a terrible time to ask for money for anything. If you need more money, work for it.Host fundraisers, have yard sales/benefit auctions, etc.that way people that can afford to pay more, have the opportunity, while saving those that barely make it dont have another tax to pay.
