COLUMBIA — Parts of one southbound lane of U.S. 63 will be closed before 4 p.m. Thursday as contractors begin installing at median guard cable between the north and southbound lanes.
The closures will be between Jefferson City and Interstate 70 in Columbia, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation. Crews will work on four-mile sections at a time, starting at Route H and working south to Jefferson City.
Median guard cables are designed to reduce the potential of cross-over crashes by catching vehicles in the median.
Installation on a cable between I-70 and Route AC will begin overnight. The cables are part of a project that includes guard rail work on various bridges along the route, which will be complete in late summer.
