COLUMBIA— Flashing yellow arrow turn signals will be installed at five intersections along College Avenue, according to a Missouri Department of Transportation news release.
The five intersections on College Avenue to receive the new signals are:
- Rogers Street/Paris Road
- Walnut Street
- University Avenue
- Rollins Road
- Hospital Drive/Ashland Road
The flashing yellow arrows replace the "left turn yield on green" signal that is used in most left-turn lanes. Drivers should yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians before turning when the yellow arrow is flashing.
"We are installing the flashing yellow arrow signals in an effort to reduce motorists' confusion and improve highway safety," said MoDOT District Traffic Engineer Matt Myers.
MoDOT began installing these signals in March, starting with seven intersections along Stadium Boulevard, as previously reported.

I would seriously like to meet someone who was "confused" about what the green ball on a left-turn lane means...
("Drivers should yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians before turning when the yellow arrow is flashing.")
I'm confused now.
The word "should" makes it unclear as to who has right of way.
Should pedestrians and other vehicles be more careful with these yellow blinking arrows are flashing away?
How fast will it be flashing? Should I totally ignore it when the bulb is not illuminated?
Were there problems before?
How will this improve anything or will nothing really change except cash flow for bulb installers?
And will the deer get this memo?
Let me get this right, we are replacing a system that has been in use for decades that everyone understands with a new system that are supposed to avoid confusion. SO now drivers are going to be confused about a new system, instead of the system they have been used to and been using for years. Good Job, this one makes a whole lot of sense!
Thank you MoDOT for wasting my tax dollars. Why 'fix' something that isn't broken, why not spend money on projects that actually have problems and need to be fixed!!
