PrintCOLUMBIA — Consumers and vendors of the Columbia Farmers' Market had the idea to set up a new location in the south side of town. Now, that idea has taken a step toward becoming a reality.
Last week, a request was filed with the Planning and Development Department to permit the parking lot of Forum Christian Church at 3900 Forum Blvd. to be used as a location for the Columbia Farmers' Market. Because the church is currently zoned for residential use, the market requested a conditional use permit to allow the market to operate.
The Columbia City Council must approve the request for the market's plans to move forward.
Market Manager Caroline Todd said more than 85 farmers currently sell at the market, and they've asked for more space. In late February, the church agreed to provide the space. The parking lot could hold 15 to 20 vendors.
