TODAY'S QUESTION: Do you think "problem-oriented policing" is effective?

Police Chief Ken Burton has implemented "problem-oriented policing" for downtown Columbia. According to police, the majority of problems they deal with downtown are fights as a result of people drinking too much.

To cut down on fights, downtown patrol officers are looking to prevent people from becoming overly intoxicated. Police will be using tiny body cameras and ID scanners to prevent underage drinking as well as patrolling bars for those who may be of age but drinking too much.

However, there are other areas within the First Ward that are not subject to "problem-oriented policing." This past week, a man was shot on Circus Avenue, which is also in the First Ward.
