PrintCOLUMBIA — Cozy Cottages developer Amir Ziv can finally begin construction on Ridgeway Avenue after the city installs an 8-inch sewer line on the property.
Ziv has fought a long battle with the city to construct three cottage-style housing units aimed at low-income families. To comply with city code, an 8-inch sewer line needed to be installed before Ziv could begin construction.
The City Council approved using $10,000 of Community Development Block Grant money to pay for the sewer project, which will be installed by the Public Works Department.
In a previous Missourian report, Ziv said "If I would have had to do this myself, it would have cost me a lot of money."
Ziv said his next step is making sure he has the funding to complete the project after the sewer line is installed. Although he does currently have some funding, he may need more to complete the project.
"It's been two and a half years since the project started. So banking has changed," he said. "Hopefully, I'll be able to get funding for the project to start.
Regardless, Ziv said he remains committed to completing the project.
"I didn't fight this all for me not to," he said. "It's a lesson learned by both me and the city."
