Carnahan to appear with Obama during Missouri trip

JEFFERSON CITY — Democratic Senate candidate Robin Carnahan plans to join President Barack Obama during his visit Wednesday to north-central Missouri.
Carnahan campaign spokesman Linden Zakula confirmed Monday that Carnahan will appear with Obama when he tours an ethanol plant in Macon. Zakula said Carnahan plans to use the event to talk about jobs for Missouri.

Carnahan, the incumbent secretary of state, did not appear with Obama when he came to the St. Louis area last month for a health care speech and a Democratic fundraiser. A spokesman said she was in Washington at the time to encourage reforms to the financial industry.
Carnahan is the leading Democrat in the race to replace retiring Republican Sen. Kit Bond. The Republican frontrunner is U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt.
