COLUMBIA — A new water main on the city's distribution system will be the subject of two public meetings.
The 2008 Long Range Water Study found that a new 24-inch water main was needed, according a news release from Columbia Water and Light.
The new line will tie to an existing water main by the intersection of Ponderosa Street and Nifong Boulevard. The line will extend to the Shepard Water Tower at the end of Stadium Boulevard and U.S. 63. This part of the line is referred to as the south section; the north section will extend from the Shepard Water Tower to the Hillside Pumping Station.
The water main will move large quantities of water to storage sites as well as pump stations.
The city has scheduled the following meetings:
Southeast water transmission meeting:
5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Elks Lodge, 4747 E. Elk Park Drive.
Northeast water transmission meeting:
5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Elks Lodge.
