Outfielder makes game close, but Missouri baseball team still loses

Since returning from injury, outfielder Ryan Gebhart has been a spark for the Missouri baseball team.

He has played well in left field and acted as a table setter for Missouri’s big bats.

In Saturday’s game against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Gebhart did what he could to give the Tigers a spark.

Trailing 5-2 in the ninth inning, Gebhart delivered a two-run single up the middle, his third hit of the game, to make the score 5-4. This hit also advanced the potential tying run to third base with slugger Aaron Senne coming to the plate.

Senne grounded out to end the game, and the Red Raiders won 5-4.

The loss stopped Missouri’s Big 12 winning streak at three games, and it was only the second Big 12 loss the team has suffered since Gebhart has returned.

Gebhart has hit in all seven games he has played in since returning and has put a stop to left field being a position that coach Tim Jamieson frequently platoons.

His return has also helped Missouri in its quest to make an eighth-straight regional tournament. With only 10 conference games left this season, the Tigers need to put together a hot streak to make this happen.

Missouri (23-18, 7-9 Big 12) and Texas Tech (25-22, 11-9 Big 12) play the rubber game at 12 p.m. Sunday in Lubbock.
