COLUMBIA — The owner of a pickup truck that caught fire at Old 63 and Stadium Boulevard might not know his vehicle caught fire, said Clayton Farr Jr., lieutenant with the Columbia Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at 4:53 p.m. The flames appeared to be from the engine compartment, Farr said, though no cause of the fire was known as of 6 p.m. Monday. When firefighters arrived, a passerby told them the driver had left the scene for a "previous medical emergency," Farr said.
Farr said he is unaware if the medical emergency happened before or after the fire, what the medical emergency was, how the driver left the scene or where the driver went. Farr said an ambulance did not pick up the driver.
A fire investigator will examine the charred vehicle before it is towed from the scene. Then, firefighters will clean up leaked fluids if necessary.
