PrintROCHEPORT – Gov. Jay Nixon will be among those gathering at Katy Trail State Park on Saturday to celebrate the park's 20th anniversary, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
Nixon will be the keynote speaker, and Bill Bryan, director of the Department of Natural Resources' Division of State Parks, will be the master of ceremonies. Pat Jones, who, along with her late husband, Ted, gave the initial donation to make Katy Train State Park possible, will also be attending.
The festivities will begin at 1 p.m. at the trailhead with special displays from the communities along the 225-mile corridor of the trail from St. Charles to Clinton, the release said. Following the ceremony at 2 p.m., former Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman will lead a commemorative bicycle ride to Hindman Junction.
The ceremony will also be the official kick-off of the Katy Trail Ticket Book Program, which is designed to encourage people to visit every community along the Katy Trail corridor.
