PrintCOLUMBIA — Stormwater management plans for the Catholic high school being built near A. Perry Philips Park will allow for grading of park land and drainage into the park lake.
The plan requires the school to establish and maintain grass cover on the graded area and perform any needed maintenance of drainage structures.
- People building the new Columbia Catholic High School are seeking to grade a certain portion of the A. Perry Philips Park and have a long-term storm drainage easement to send stormwater runoff into Philips Lake.
All grading on city property can have a slope no greater than 5 to 1 feet, which allows for grass to be mowed. The school would be responsible for seeding, mulching, fertilizing and watering a grass cover.
The school will be responsible for corrective measures of any erosion that might occur between the drainage easement and Philips Park Lake for five years after the school is occupied.
The agreement will have no fiscal impact on city operations, according to the report presented to Columbia City Council on Monday night.
Council voted 5-0 to approve the plan after no discussion. First Ward Councilman Paul Sturtz did not attend the meeting. Fifth Ward Councilwoman Laura Nauser was not present for the vote.
Father Augustine Tolton Regional Catholic High School, Columbia’s first Catholic high school, is slated to be open by fall 2011.
