COLUMBIA — Volunteer letter carriers will pick up food donations as well as letters on Saturday. They will collect the donations as part of the 18th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive.
Nonperishable and nonglass products, along with monetary donations, may be placed in food bags, which were delivered to homes last week. Collected items will be donated to the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri*.
This year, six Missouri communities will participate in the drive, including Columbia, Jefferson City, Kirksville, Boonville, Fulton and Holts Summit.
"Stamp Out Hunger" food drive is the largest one-day food drive in the United States. In 2009, northeast Missouri collected over 208,000 pounds of food*.
