COLUMBIA — Previously retired veterinarian Alan Allert recently became the semi-retired executive director of the Central Missouri Humane Society.
After serving as interim executive director of the society for six months, Allert was officially offered the position following a board meeting on April 14.
Allert is presently focusing on renovations of the Humane Society building after the agency won a contest hosted by ZooToo. Although the Humane Society won the renovation contest in the summer, preparation for renovations began last week.
“I was very excited for them because they were in desperate need of renovation,” he said. “As a veterinarian I can appreciate that we’re going to do a much better job of separating the dogs and cats. It should be less stressful for them.”
Although Allert did not expect to be offered the position in November, he said he was willing to help and do anything possible.
