COLUMBIA — More than 720 eggs were served at Shiloh Bar & Grill to 629 participants in the ninth annual Bike, Walk & Wheel Week on Friday morning.
Twelve locations served free breakfast to commuters as part of Breakfast Station Day from 7 to 9 a.m. Two locations opened "early bird" stations at 6:30 a.m.
Locations for this year's event included the MKT Trailhead at Forum Boulevard, Shiloh Bar & Grill on East Broadway and D&H Drugstore at Broadway and West Boulevard.
Former Mayor Darwin Hindman initiated Bike, Walk & Wheel Week in 2002 to motivate residents to rely more on active transportation than motor vehicles. The city uses Bike, Walk & Wheel Week to encourage and educate participants to walk or bike more often, said Janet Godon, director of programs for PedNet.
Columbia resident Mark Ellis said his sons Syd, 13, and Simon, 10, became excited about biking after attending the 2006 event, Ellis said.
