NEW FRANKLIN — The incoming police chief for the mid-Missouri hamlet of New Franklin has been arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and failing to drive on the right half of the roadway.
Boonville police arrested Dwayne Wheeler on Thursday night on Missouri 5 near Interstate 70.
Capt. Don Smith of the Boonville Police Department said Wheeler failed a field sobriety test and refused to submit to a blood-alcohol test.
He was released from the Cooper County Jail after posting a $512 bond.
New Franklin Mayor Frank Frevert told The Boonville Daily News that Wheeler was scheduled to be sworn in Monday. He said the New Franklin Board of Aldermen would meet to determine what steps should be taken.
