COLUMBIA – A Columbia man was stopped by the Columbia Police Department twice in less than three hours Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. Robert Mitchell Eckerle, 48, was arrested twice on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Eckerle was pulled over at 11:57 p.m. for traffic violations on westbound Interstate 70 near Providence Road, according to a Boone County Sheriff's Department news release. He was arrested on suspicion of felony driving while intoxicated.
His bail was set at $4,595. Eckerle was processed and released.
At 2:33 a.m. Thursday, Eckerle was pulled over again for traffic violations on U.S. 40 near Henderson Road. Deputies said he was still intoxicated and was arrested again. Bail was set at $4,595 for the second offense.
Eckerle already had at least three convictions for either driving while intoxicated or driving with excessive blood alcohol content.
