The Hickman bowling team was excited.
“We did it! We achieved our goals this weekend!” said Tina Balser, one of three coaches of the team
Hickman’s first-year bowling team competed in the Missouri Bowling Proprietors’ Association High School State Championship on Saturday, May 29, in Ellisville. There were a total of 24 teams competing. Hickman finished seventh overall.
The team competed in three team games and 16 baker games, in which five players each bowl two frames. The players set goals for each of the games in the State championship, and were able to achieve beyond their expectations.
“We wanted to shoot 2700 in team games, and we shot 2808. We wanted to be 8-8 in our baker head-to-head match play and we went 10-6,” explained Balser.
The team started playing at 9 a.m. and continued throughout the day until about 3 p.m.
Afterward, the championship presented awards for teams that made the top five, as well as those that didn’t. Hickman was awarded a plaque for the best baker series that didn’t make the top five.
“We are so proud of our kids,” said Balser. “Everyone played and they did great!”
