COLE COUNTY — The speed limit on 12 miles of U.S. 54 in Cole County will reduce from 70 mph to 65 mph as part of a MoDOT review of the highway.
The change will take place starting just west of Fall Hill Road in Jefferson City.
"When looking at the intersection, hopefully the reduction speed will give people more reaction time when they see someone pulling out," district traffic engineer Matt Myers said.
Crews will begin putting up the new speed limit signs Monday, as long as the weather is good.
The speed reduction is part of MoDOT's efforts to improve safety and reduce the number of severe crashes at intersections along U.S. 54. They are reviewing the area to determine additional solutions.
"This is one area (drivers) need to pay particular attention to," Myers said.
