PrintCOLUMBIA — The Columbia Police Department is looking for a bank robbery suspect. The robbery was reported at 12:10 p.m. at the Landmark Bank at 1000 Kennesaw Ridge Road.
Investigative Supervisor Sgt. Roger Allen said the suspect showed a handgun to one of four employees. The suspect didn't fire any shots and no one was injured.
The suspect was described as
- White male
- Age 40-50
- Height 6 foot to 6 foot 3 inches
- Weight 215 - 240 pounds
- Sandy, red hair
The suspect was wearing blue jeans and black shirt.
Four bank employees were at the scene and no customers were in the building.
Eight Columbia Police Department detectives and the Missouri State Highway Patrol K-9 unit were dispatched to the scene.
K-9 units tracked the suspect across the street to the east and soon failed to track further.
Police is reviewing surveillance video collected from the scene, Allen said.
As of 1:45 p.m. Friday, the bank was closed.
As FBI special agent Samuel Benson arrived at the department at 2:20 p.m., the Columbia Police Department's Major Crimes Unit and the FBI plan to investigate the case together, Allen said.
This is the first bank robbery to occur in Columbia in 2010.

What I dont get is why we dont have patrol cars monitoring banks at all times.
If a to be bank robber was to see these cars they would not want to rob the bank.
Because there are only 160-some cops to protect all 100,000 Columbians. Bank robberies are rare events. If we had police sitting by banks all day, they'd not able to patrol elsewhere where they might be needed more.
