ST. CHARLES — A 19-year-old St. Charles County man faces charges of second-degree murder in the death of his 12-week-old daughter.
KTVI-TV reports that Marlon Maurice Hines is jailed on $50,000 cash-only bond.
Prosecutors say the baby was left in Hines' care while the mother went to the store. Hines told authorities he used pressure on the child's chest to keep her from squirming while he changed the diaper.
Investigators say the pressure was too hard and led to injuries that killed the girl. Prosecutor Jack Banas says the girl had a lacerated liver, broken ribs and other injuries.
